Or people think lying for the sake of simplification is ok, which is wrong, at all levels of education.

All of education is built on simplified explanations. And that’s fine. But this is not a mere “oversimplifying for now”, it’s just wrong about what “binary” means, and wrong about portability, and wrong about what “text file” means to boot.

the thing about simplification is that it requires a fundamental understanding of the underlying complexity and I think many people that teach, at least at lower levels (hs/undergrad) dont have that solid foundational grasp, or if they did, got old and lost it.
also hubris.
