I've said this for a long time: you can either pull in dependencies willy-nilly and start off with a rapid pace of development which gets slower and slower as time goes by and ultimately you find you can't do certain things at all, or you can build your own libraries which takes time up front, but as time goes by your productivity keeps growing exponentially, and you can do anything you want because you have total control.
