WebUSB sure sounds like scope-creep. https://wicg.github.io/webusb/

There is going to be WebEVERYTHING for every single thing that an operating system API gives you access to, because they want to use everything, but are scared to use the operating system without a condom plus slow interface designed by people bad at operating systems…

The fact that we got to this point, I see as a failure of OS and native language development, because if we gave people a better alternative, we would not be in the middle of this huge mess. But I am dismayed by how few people will admit that there is a mess.

Yes, WebEverything is an attempt to enclose the mess. Perhaps one of the most successful attempts so far. But still messy.

I mean sure, if you make a bigger mess on top of an existing mess, I guess you can call that enclosing the mess … ??? !!!

People are messy, the legacies are messy. OS’s exist to define boundaries, to help people communicate and collaborate while containing badness. Web, awful as it is, is probably the most inclusive and safest platform so far. And not even that messy, compared to native OS’s.
